AKA: Mrs. Morrissey
I grew up outside of Boston, Massachusetts with my parents, older brother, younger sister, a few dogs, cats, fish, hermit crabs and parakeets. From an early age I really enjoyed school, especially art class. I actually always thought I would be an art teacher! However, my dad made bookmobiles (he still does) and he would sometimes bring them home. My sister and I would sleep in them. My mom would get me lots of books and take me to the library for even more. So, I was literally surrounded by stories and books. I think wanting to be a teacher and being surrounded by books made me really want to become a reading teacher!
*(A bookmobile is a large truck filled with books. The bookmobiles were like traveling libraries.)
I went to college in Worcester, Massachusetts and received both my bachelors and masters degrees in education. I played both softball and volleyball throughout high school and college. I even coached college volleyball for three years!
I first started teaching 5th grade in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The school was very big compared to Salisbury. I never had less than 25 students and there were 25 fifth grade classrooms. We had many gyms and cafeterias. The principal even got lost coming to my classroom one day!
After teaching there for three years Dave, my husband, and I decided to move to Vermont. I started working at Cornwall Elementary and was soon at Salisbury Community School teaching 6th grade. We had our daughter, Emma and then soon after Julia. We moved to Salisbury from Middlebury after a few years because I loved the school. I really wanted our daughters to be at Salisbury! So, now our family lives in Salisbury with two dogs, Tessie and Sandie.
I enjoy reading, math and spending time with my family and friends. I like to be outside, hiking, swimming and gardening. I enjoy camping and sometimes I even like running! I have fun playing games, listening to music and planning fun things to do.
One of my favorite things to do though is teach! I really LOVE learning and love helping others learn. I am very lucky that I love my job, not many people do. I hope that all of my students choose to follow a path that leads them towards their passion-NO MATTER WHAT THAT MAY BE!
